Named after the Native American tribe that occupied the land centuries ago, Congaree National Park is situated in Central South Carolina. The park consists of the largest tract of old growth bottomland hardwood forest.
Some of the tallest trees in the eastern U.S along with one of the highest canopies in the world also find their home at Congaree National Park. In addition to that the park also preserves champion trees, primeval forest landscapes, towering pines and a diverse plant and animal life.
Tourists can access the park year round. Although spring and fall are the most pleasant seasons to visit, boaters find it easier to paddle after a rain in late winter and early spring.
